Help me raise money to find a cure for ALS!
LET'S KISS ALS GOODBYE
| Event: | St. Louis Walk |
| Date: | Saturday, June 26, 2021 |
| Team: | Team Guy |
I was exposed to ALS at a young age when my father was diagnosed. My mom and I saw him rapidly decrease in strength until his death in 1997. No family or individual should have to go through that. That's why I'm walking with Team Guy in the Walk to Defeat ALS.
Let's see some stats, stat.
ALS is 100% fatal.
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.
The average survival time is 3 years, with only 10% of those with ALS surviving 10 years and only 5% living 20 years or more.
Did you know?
Out of pocket medical costs for a person with ALS are estimated at over $250,000 annually.
The cost of developing a prescription drug that gains market approval is $2.6 billion, a 145% increase since 2003.
Please consider donating to our team. Every dollar counts!
How will your gift help people with ALS?
RESEARCH. The ALS Association funds over 150 labs across the world--the most comprehensive ALS research program ever organized.
ADVOCACY. Going to Capitol Hill to enact life-changing policies nationwide.
CARE SERVICES. To help people with ALS and their families.
How can my donation help today?
Independence: just $10 provides adaptive equipment such as utensils or zipper pulls.
Connection: $25 covers the cost of an LCD writing tablet, allowing a person with ALS to communicate with those around them.
Nourishment: $50 provides 2 cases of nutritional supplement to an individual with ALS who can no longer swallow solid food.
Comfort: $100 pays for a home visit by a care service coordinator to respond to the physical and emotional needs of a family dealing with ALS.
Peace of mind: $250 funds 5 counseling sessions for a child coping with the effects of having a parent or grandparent battling ALS.
Relief: $500 provides 20 hours of in-home caregiver relief to allow a family member caring for a person with ALS a break.
Quality of life: $1,000 covers the cost of a lightweight lift chair so that a person with ALS can retain mobility.
Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal!
