My sister, Cynthia, is the reason why I walk. Cynthia was diagnosed with ALS in June 2013 and lost her fight with ALS in February 2015 at the age of 49. I also had an uncle who passed away in the fall of 2012 from ALS. Our team has been a part of the St Louis Walk to Defeat ALS since 2014. My sisters, Tina & Renae, our families, friends, & I walk each year in celebration of Cynthia’s life and the memories we have of her.
Even though our team is small, we walk because she could not. As her disease progressed, she was slowly robbed of her ability to walk, talk, & eat. I saw how Cynthia was affected by the disease & want to try & help make a difference.
The Walk to Defeat ALS has been a life changing event for me because it connected me with other people & families who share a common goal – helping to find a cure. It is always fun & brings me great joy at the walk each year.
